Fun Fact: It’s the oldest professional stadium in Spain being in use since 1908. Capacity of 29,371. The stadium is located on the site of an old watermill, hence the stadium’s name, the Spanish word for “big mill”. West Germany played their three group matches of the 1982 World Cup in this stadium. Their last match against Austria forced a change in the rules forcing the last group match to be played simultaneously in future competitions.

La Romareda was one of the venues for the 1982 FIFA World Cup and can potentially serve as a venue for the 2030 FIFA World Cup. The stadium boasts the bizarre claim to have Europe’s deepest goal nets, which stretch back four meters. The nets also have a striking blue and white diagonal stripe design.
